Week Thirty-Nine

(Header is Chris and Carol in Kauai a few years ago..Wailua golf course)

Hey folks,

I thought we might be about done here, but another little bug-a-boo has arisen.  I had an MRI for my supposedly low-grade prostate cancer situation…opting for the MRI rather than a biopsy to reduce likelihood of infection, and because MRI’s are supposed to be pretty darn accurate in finding cancer in the prostate.  The results came back and I talked to my doctor last week.  The report said it was ‘highly likely’ that there is ‘clinically significant cancer’ present in the blah blah lobe of the prostate.

I’m not sure what ‘clinically significant cancer’ means, but my doctor said it was ominous enough that we should get an ‘MRI-directed’ biopsy done at UCSF.  I’m trying to get that scheduled for when we return from Hawaii in mid-April.  So I suppose I’ll have a few more reports for whoever’s still around ‘out there’ on what UCSF finds in the biopsy.

In the meantime, my weight last Saturday was 126.9 lbs, and today it is 128.2.  I bounced around the 128’s most of the week, getting as high as 128.8.  I think 130 lbs is in my near future!

Going to the gym, getting stronger, swinging the golf club, eating whenever I can.  Things going good, except for this little prostate bump.  I’ll report back when we return from Hawaii, and will follow-up with the biopsy results when that happens.

In the meantime, welcome to Spring, and here’s a little poetic drivel from Lenten poem #27

There’s a big bird flyin’ — we’re going somewhere

Pack up your bags and get outta that chair

Forget all your troubles…just leave ’em there

We ain’t got time to fuss or to care.

Your worries will be here when we get back

So forget ’em for now — give ’em some slack

Where we are headed you hardly need jack

Flip flops and t-shirts are not much to pack.

Shorts and a swimming suit and a hat too

What else is needed when skies are all blue

With the sun and the sea calling to you

Just mess up your hair and kick off your shoe.

Grab a good book, you’ll want something to read

Dark glasses too, you had better take heed

Other than that there is not much you’ll need

Go and enjoy and pretend you are freed.

  1. Hi Chris,
Ouch! Just when you are looking good going forward, more bad luck visits. It sounds like you are taking the news in stride, and have decided to enjoy Hawaii and deal with it later. Good decision, I say.
    Enjoy your vacation.
    Your friend,
    Don

  2. Mr G’s –
Have a great time in Hawaii. Your poem expresses the proper handling of the new prostrate worry about as well as words possibly can, so we only can add “amen” to that. We’ll keep our fingers crossed with the very reasonable thought that “clinically significant” isn’t nearly as ominous as it sounds.

Will keep this short as I’m anxious to see if it goes through. I wrote a comment last week that was rejected by the system with a message that I am a suspected bot!

Best wishes to you, Mrs G’s and family.

  3. Hello Chris & Carol,
Here’s a toast to you on your holiday in Hawaii!! I trust you are enjoying yourselves there as much as we are in Sorrento, overlooking the sea. There world is such a remarkably beautiful place.

Happy Easter – He is risen,
    Your friend, Don

  4. Hey Chris!
Just want you to know I’m here, following along, just haven’t commented yet. Glad to see you taking a well-deserved trip to Hawaii! Hope you can eat a lot and enjoy the beauty there. Looking forward to seeing you tackle the latest bump in the road with your signature grace and grit.
    Love,
    Your Echo Lake/Hemlock Neighbor,
    Laura
