I had some technical difficulties with the blog site this morning…apparently some sort of domain certificate ran out and the website became ‘insecure’…meaning, among other things, that I couldn’t get on the site to add this week’s blog.
I called my ‘webmaster’ and a technician fixed the problem, but the blog will have to wait until Sunday afternoon before it gets composed. We are off to San Francisco very shortly to see Vietgone, a play at the American Conservatory Theater.
Okay, we’re back, it’s Sunday afternoon. The play, Vietgone, was excellent, written by a young Vietnamese whose parents escaped from South Vietnam in 1975. It was a love story as well as a look at the American involvement in the war from a South Vietnamese perspective….they were glad/appreciative we were there, trying to help them.
Well, anyway, back to blog-topic stuff…
Weight this week very steady, 127.5 lbs last Saturday, 127.5 this Saturday (yesterday).
I missed going to the gym while up in Oregon last week, but did get in a workout back here on Friday, then that afternoon played golf…18 holes for the first time. I was pretty tired that night, but not too worn out right after the game. My score was probably 10 strokes above my handicap, and I have lost a lot of distance on my shots. But, I did play 18 holes and did have some decent holes, including a few pars.
I guess my only complaint for the week is the uncomfortable feeling I get when I have too much to eat. I try to eat as much as possible to maximize calories and protein, but if I go too far I get a quasi-nauseous feeling. Gotta somehow identify the ‘max point’ before I get there.
Next week I go in for an MRI on my prostate, to see if the cancer there is still low grade and localized. And then on Wednesday I see the doctor to get the results of my PET scan from a week ago Friday. The PET scan will show whether or not the cancer is all gone, so that’s a biggie.
I guess that’s about it for this week.
I’ll leave you with another Lenten reading. This one is the result of our spending a few days near Grants Pass with son Scott and wife Heidi. They live just off of Jump Off Joe Creek Road in a quaint little abode that looks out over a crease in the mountains and above a creek. It’s very peaceful there.
Lenten Reading #19
A trumpet rests on the floor in the front
Beside it a smooth electric old bass
A six string acoustic adds to the hunt
Close by, a bongo drum, there just in case.
A computer monitor on a stand
Flanked by speakers with succulents atop
Across the room is the piano land
Where a player might play Chopin or Bach.
Out the window there lies a pine-covered crest
The down slope sprinkled with thin-skinned madrones
And Jump Off Joe Creek is a watery guest
Meandering loud past moss-covered stones.
An Idyllic place in forest north west
A home for a puppy and a baby soon
And two thoughtful people filled with a zest
For living and loving and singing their tune.
Hi Chris,
I was convinced you wouldn’t be left out to dry for almost two weeks, so in my mind no news must mean good news. I will continue to believe that ie true. Besides, I don’t see how you could be doing so damn good physically unless your body is on it’s way to recovery.
At this point, I will kick back and wait for the good news.
Your friend,
Don
